The Dangers of Accutane
Accutane® has been used by people to fight serious Acne for decades. In 1997 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) started receiving complaints of inflammatory bowel disease associated with the use of Accutane®. In almost all of the 85 reports received during a five year span, the FDA determined that it was at least "probable" that the diseases had been caused by Accutane®.
Although the manufacturer of Accutane, Roche Pharmaceuticals, has made nearly $1.2 billion per year from the sale of this drug alone, it halted production in June of 2009 due to the increasing costs of defending claims against the drug by patients injured by Accutane®.
